I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in Northumbria, England, where sideways rain and fierce winds were the norm. I spent my early years on my grandfather’s farm. He was a local legend, a decorated World War I hero, who also famously lifted an unexploded WWII bomb dropped by a Luftwaffe plane.
My father continued the family tradition of service, first in the military and later as a detective, contributing to the capture of the infamous Yorkshire Ripper. I, too, joined the military right after high school. After completing my contract, I earned a degree in photography, working as a photojournalist and discovering a love for writing.
Driven by a desire to see the world, I became a cruise ship photographer, visiting 137 countries. Now, I live in rural Connecticut with my beloved wife, Megan, three children, and four pets. I enjoy hunting, archery, and gardening and work in local government. A voracious reader, I’ve devoured over 20,000 books. Megan supports my writing and patiently understands when I drift off into story ideas and “what if” scenarios that often remain in my imagination
